The mask's plastic barrier is made of a recyclable material, and can be physically separated from the rest of the mask to be recycled via standard recycling practices in your community and home.
The foam portions at the top and bottom of the mask can also be separated to recycle via your local foam recycling program; click here to find your closest foam recycling drop-off location. Some cities and counties also collect foam as part of their standard curbside collection programs.
Masks used in hospitals and medical institutions must be disposed according to local bio-hazard regulations.
A ClearMask™ transparent face mask is not airtight along the sides of the mask, where air circulation occurs, thus allowing for comfort and breathability. All traditional masks have gaps on the sides, so this design is not entirely unique to the ClearMask™ brand; the only masks that don't have gaps are respirators that are properly fit tested. The ClearMask™ transparent face mask provides an impervious frontal barrier against fluids and sprays, performing the same functions as traditional masks.
For more information, please refer to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website regarding masks and respirators, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's comparison on surgical masks and respirators.
