  • Over half of communication is visual. We often depend on facial expressions, emotions, and visual cues when we communicate with others, even on a subconscious level.

As the world’s first and only fully transparent, FDA-cleared and CE-marked transparent mask, the ClearMask™ brand helps improve communication for everyone. The ability to see others' facial expressions and emotions can improve communication and connection across all ages and backgrounds. When we can see each other's faces and smiles, patient satisfaction, trust, and health can improve.¹ ² ³

In a 2021 Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) Surgery article, patients preferred the ClearMask™ transparent masks. Doctors who wore the ClearMask  were rated higher in communication, empathy and trust over standard masks.

  • Traditional masks are designed to block bodily fluids and particulate materials away from the wearer’s face. The ClearMask™ brand serves the same functions as traditional masks and provides a full, anti-fog plastic barrier, which helps prevent particles or droplets from getting through.

The ClearMask™ transparent surgical mask is not airtight along the sides of the mask, where air circulation occurs, thus allowing for comfort and breathability. All traditional masks have gaps on the sides, so this design is not entirely unique to the ClearMask™ brand.

The ClearMask™ High Filtration Transparent Surgical Mask uses a filter material on the top and bottom portions of the mask, allowing for improved filtration and closer fit to the face, offering the ClearMask™ brand's strongest protection yet. The device provides high bacterial and particulate filtration efficiency. The ClearMask™ high filtration brand is not the same as an N95 respirator. Only NIOSH-approved N95 respirators are designed to fully filter with a complete seal when fit-tested and properly worn. For more information, please visit here.

For more information, please refer to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website regarding masks and respirators, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's comparison on surgical masks and respirators.

The ClearMask™ transparent surgical mask brand has received FDA clearance as a Class II medical device and meets the CE Marking requirements as a Class I medical device under the EU Medical Device Regulation (2017/745), which offers a high level of protection for medical use in environments such as operating rooms. The mask meets applicable ASTM Level 3 requirements in the United States for fluid resistance and flammability, and applicable EN 14683 requirements for fluid resistance, microbial cleanliness, and biocompatibility. The ClearMask™ brand has also passed additional tests in accordance with the transparent mask guidelines released by the United Kingdom, including tests for resistance to penetration of microorganisms (ASTM F1671) and visibility (EN 166). FDA 510(k) filing is in progress for the ClearMask™ High Filtration Transparent Surgical Mask, which is currently available for use under the FDA’s COVID-19 mask enforcement policy.

  • The ClearMask™ brand produces transparent surgical masks, which offer distinctly different protection than transparent face shields. Face shields are not substitutes for face masks.

The CDC does not recommend using face shields or goggles as a substitute for masks. Goggles or other eye protection may be used in addition to a mask. Face shields and goggles are primarily used to protect the eyes of the person wearing it. Goggles do not cover the nose and mouth. Face shields are not as effective at protecting you or the people around you from respiratory droplets.” For more information about the differences, please view the CDC guidelines, specifically the “Other Types of Face Protection” section.

The ClearMask™ brand does not make face shields of any type, only transparent surgical masks that cover the wearer’s mouth and nose when worn properly.
